PREVIOUSLY: Big Ol’ EPD Contingency Downtown; One Person Detained in Connection With ‘Shots Fired’ Call

On August 29th , 2018 at about 1:53 PM, Officers of the Eureka Police Department responded to the area of Summer and W. Washington Streets for the report of shots being fired from a vehicle. The reporting parties provided a vehicle description and last known direction of travel.

Upon arrival officers began searching the area for the vehicle, which had been described as a black Dodge pick-up. Officers quickly located the suspect vehicle traveling eastbound on 5th Street and conducted a high risk felony stop at the 1100 block of 5th Street. The driver, Aaron Hooven (47 year old) was detained without incident. A loaded rifle was visible in the front seat of the suspect vehicle, along with items consistent with the recent firing of the rifle. Detectives responded and the scenes were processed. Statements were also obtained.

Based on the totality of the circumstances and the results of the investigation, Hooven was taken into custody and later booked on charges of shooting at an occupied vehicle and Brandishing a firearm. He is being held on $100,000 bail.

The shots that were fired have been accounted for and no one was injured during this incident.
