The Humboldt State men’s basketball team has matched its win total from a year ago before the Christmas break with another lopsided victory on Wednesday night, rolling over a struggling Bethesda team, 120-59.
The win was the fifth straight for the Jacks, who are now 6-0 at home and 9-4 on the season, one year after a disappointing 9-19 campaign.
It also leaves them feeling pretty good about themselves heading into the Christmas break.
“I think this game continues to give us momentum,” HSU head coach Steve Kinder said. “Having a home winning streak is great for the fans during their holiday break. After our Chico win, we wanted to keep our momentum going which I think we have done with our last two games.”
The end result was never in doubt as the Jacks ran out to a commanding 37-5 lead, highlighted by an alley-oop pass from Jackson Strong that was finished by Trevon Bentley.
The Jacks were dominant down low, outscoring the Flames 32-4 in the paint, and holding them to just 26.2 percent shooting in the first half. HSU went into the break up 61-20.
Humboldt forced 19 Bethesda turnovers, and made the most of those opportunities, scoring 30 points off of them.
The Jacks will now take a week off for the holiday break before returning to conference action on Dec. 29 at UC San Diego.
