On Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 around 3:26 a.m. a deputy on patrol in the Willow Creek area observed a lifted, blue pickup truck parked with its engine running on the south side of Highway 96 near mile marker two. The deputy had observed the vehicle in the area earlier in the [previous] evening and initiated a vehicle investigation.

When the deputy approached the vehicle, he observed both occupants sleeping in the cab of the truck with the muzzle of a rifle lying on the center console between the occupants. The deputy instructed the occupants to exit the vehicle. The deputy detained the driver, 40-year-old Harvey Robert Crews, and the passenger, 20-year-old Maxine Rose White.

The Hoopa Valley Tribal Police arrived on scene to assist. While searching the vehicle, the deputy located an AR-15 assault rifle, four AR-15 magazines, two of which were loaded, a handgun, gunsmithing tools, ammunition, methamphetamine and syringes.

White was arrested on the following charges: carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle, possession of a short-barreled rifle, possession of an assault weapon, possession of a large-capacity magazine and possession of a controlled substance.
