California Highway Patrol press release:

Today around 1030, our helicopter was requested by Trinity CHP to assist in locating a family who became stranded in the snow on Underwood Mountain Road near Forest Service Road 23.

H-16 responded from Redding and after a short search, located the vehicle at the 4,000’ level. H-16 landed 1/2 mile away and walked to the vehicle.

The family was found in good health and the mother, along with her 3-year-old daughter were walked back to H-16 and flown to Burnt Ranch.

H-16 returned and landed at the truck to retrieve the father. The family was driven home to Arcata by a Trinity CHP Officer.
