From the California Highway Patrol:

On January 2, 2018 at approximately 1729 hours, a Garberville Area CHP officer observed a white Ford Explorer traveling northbound on US 101, north of Hooker Creek Road, without headlights or taillights illuminated during the hours of darkness. The Ford made unsafe lane changes and failed to merge right for faster moving vehicles. The officer initiated an enforcement stop on the Ford, however, the Ford failed to yield to emergency lights and siren.

The Ford continued at speeds up to 55 MPH on US 101 to the Dyerville Overlook, where a spike strip was deployed successfully. The Ford continued northbound on US 101 at low speeds, to MPM 45.00, where another spike strip was deployed successfully. The Ford continued on US 101 at speeds between 15-20 MPH on US 101 south of Scotia.

A P.I.T. maneuver was initiated and the Ford was incapacitated. The driver was detained without further incident and ultimately determined to be a reported missing person at risk. The driver was transported to Redwood Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
