Daniel Warren Bosler passed away peacefully on May 26th, 2018 in Eureka, California, at Hospice of Humboldt.

Dan was born on October 21st, 1936 to Constance and Harry Bosler in Aberdeen, Washington. As a boy, he could often be found exploring the wilds of the Washington peninsula, with his younger brother, George, in tow. An independent and adventurous child, he thought nothing of camping by himself in the woods and carried that fearless enjoyment of the outdoors with him throughout his life.

He attended both Kelso High School and Chehalis High School, graduating from Chehalis in 1955. After high school, he attended college, and also worked construction throughout the northwest with his father. In 1959 he joined the U.S. Army, serving in Korea in counterintelligence. In 1964 he moved to California, first living in Redding before eventually settling in Humboldt County, where he began working in the timber industry.

In 1969, Dan married Anna Hollos of Tacoma, Washington and a year later they welcomed their only child, Renee. A few years later Dan would be hired by the Redwood Inspection Service to be a lumber grader, where we worked his way up to Chief Inspector. He stayed with the RIS until his retirement. He would often joke that he had to explain to people that he worked for a lumber grading outfit, not the Internal Revenue Service.

Dan enjoyed a variety of hobbies throughout his life including hiking and camping (the more remote and wild the campsite, the better), fishing, and shooting trap and skeet. He liked to haunt pawn shops and flea markets in search of interesting treasures. A motorcycle enthusiast, he went on many cycling adventures to scenic areas around northern California and southern Oregon, including Crater Lake. He also loved old movies, nature, and trivia, often getting into trivia dueling matches with his family. The encyclopedia set at the Bosler house was much loved and much used.

Dan was a larger-than-life character with a wicked sense of humor and easygoing nature that endeared him to people of all walks of life. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by wife of nearly 49 years, Anna, his daughter, Renee, his younger brother George Bosler, and niece, Julie Bosler. Donations in Dan’s memory can be made to Hospice of Humboldt, the Sierra Club, or other charity of your choice. No services will be held.
