It’s time again for “D.C. Update,” the show in which Humboldt’s Congressman, Jared Huffman, talks with Larry Trask of LoCO sister station KLGE-FM (“The Lounge”) about the issues of the day.
Fun one for politics nerds this week, as Huffman talks about some puzzling behind-the-scenes sausage-making antics. Here’s the rundown:
- The politicization of the Supreme Court.
- The budget appropriation process, which Huffman says is a “great revelation” of actual Republican values, as opposed to those preached on the campaign trail.
- Civility in political discourse, the Red Hed incident and the angry man in charge. How should we comport ourselves? Huffman doesn’t claim to have the answers.
- Every year, Huffman says, someone tries to sneak a strange little item into the defense appropriation bill — a mandate that a particular military base in Germany must buy coal from a particular coal mine in Pennsylvania. The military hates it and Huffman and his colleagues have succeeded in killing in in past years. But here it is again!
