On March 14, 2018, at about 5:50 a.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department
responded to the area of W and Russell Streets for the report of a hit and run. A witness
reported that a late model GMC SUV had hit a sign and the driver was continuing in the
wrong lane of traffic northbound on Harrison Avenue with at least one flat tire.
White
An officer located the vehicle driving erratically near Harrison and Lucas. The vehicle
lost control due to the flat tires and collided with a retaining wall near Harrison and 16th
Street. The male driver immediately exited the vehicle and brandished a sawed off
shotgun toward the officer. The male then fled on foot with the shotgun and the officer
pursued. There were no other occupants inside the vehicle.
Officers set up a perimeter and located the male running without the shotgun near 15th
and Dean Streets. After a short struggle, the male was taken into custody without further
incident. The male was identified as 27 year old Andrew White and was found to be
extremely intoxicated. The shotgun was found abandoned near the 2400 block of 16th
Street.
White was transported to the hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the
Humboldt County Correctional Facility on the following charges: possession of a sawed
of shotgun, brandishing at a peace officer, felony reckless evading, possession of a
firearm in a vehicle, DUI, resisting arrest, hit and run, and driving on a suspended license.
