Eureka Police Department press release:
On March 15, 2018, at about 7:36 p.m., officers of the Eureka Police Department
responded to the 200 block of West 15th street for a report of shots fired. During the
investigation, officers located the victim who did not sustain any gunshot wounds.
The victim, identified as Elliott Greer (42 years old of Eureka), reported that he was
being chased by two males and a female causing him to run to a nearby residence for
assistance. The males and female began physically assaulting Greer on the porch of the
residence. The uninvolved resident exited his home brandishing a firearm in an attempt
to stop the assault. The suspects continued to assault Greer at which time the resident
fired two rounds into the air causing the suspects to flee on foot. Officers searched the
vicinity however were unable to locate the suspects.
Greer was transported to St. Joseph’s hospital for treatment. Prior to being seen by ER
staff or providing a statement to officers, Greer voluntarily left the hospital on foot.
Greer was soon located walking near the intersection of Harris and Dolbeer Streets, after
shoplifting two bottles of alcohol and various items from Safeway. Greer was taken into custody for public intoxication and transported for booking at the Humboldt County
Correctional Facility.
This is an open investigation, any further details will be released as they become
available.
