Get ready! In mere moments, sirens will blare, phones will buzz, strange aircraft will fly the shore and radios will make even more disturbing noises than they usually do.
This is not an actual emergency. It’s the county’s Tsunami Communications Test, and it happens between 11 a.m. and noon. Federal, state and local officials are making sure that everything operates as it should in the event of an actual tsunami. (Click here for more information.)
Why not take this opportunity to make sure you have your tsunami plan ready, too? Sign up for text alerts from the county Office of Emergency Services. Check the region’s tsunami maps to see if your home, school or workplace is in the danger zone. Figure out an evacuation plan with your family, and plans for getting back together if you are separated.
Have a fun and productive Tsunami Communications Test, everyone!
