An autopsy is being conducted today on a body discovered in a burned structure in the Orleans area late last week.

On March 1, 2018, at about 7 p.m., Humboldt County sheriff’s deputies and the Orleans Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to a residence on 10 Eych Mine Rd. near Somes Bar for the report of a fire.

Upon arrival, crews found the structure fully engulfed in flames and began fire suppression efforts. A body was later discovered inside the residence.

The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office is working to positively identify the body. Foul play is not suspected. The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office would like to recognize the men and women of the Orleans Volunteer Fire Department, as well as the community for their assistance in this investigation.
