Donna
joined the children of heaven on Oct. 29,
suddenly and unexpectedly to us here, but no doubt part of a grander
plan. Mother to her two daughters, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a foster parent to over 200 youngsters in
our home, to say her heart was large only touches the surface. Donna
defined motherhood with excellence.
Donna is now with her father and two brothers and is survived by her mother Amelia Carpenter, brother Chip Carpenter, her husband of 51 years, Brent Whitener, daughters Staci and Tricia Whitener, and the huge family, all residing in Humboldt County.
With her passing, Donna as matriarch leaves an indelible mark on us all. She was no-nonsense, and you were certain just where you stood and what is expected of you. Numerous times she would nurture someone back to health and well-being so they could fully recuperate and rejoin the game. Her work ethic is the stuff of legend, running the gamut from extensive home restoration to catering a large family wedding. She approached life with a laser focus on the goal and brought about spectacular results without fail.
There has been a groundswell of wishes, prayers and support from those who heard of Donna’s passing, and our family is extremely grateful. Family and friends are gathering at the Whitener home in Eureka for a Celebration of Donna’s life on the afternoon of Saturday, November 17th. In lieu of flowers, Donna would ask you direct a donation to a non-profit of your choosing that supports and defends the welfare of a child.
