Cory Johnson drove home the winning run on a walk-off single on Tuesday night, as the Fortuna Huskies pulled out a 1-0 win over visiting South Fork in eight innings.

There was little between the two teams for much of the game, with Fortuna’s Caleb Crawley and South Fork’s Cooper Scott battling it out in an entertaining and fast-paced pitchers’ duel.

The win ended a five-game skid for the Huskies, who improved to 3-7.

“We played very well,” Fortuna head coach Andy Olsen said. “Both teams did.”

Crawley tossed a one-hit, complete game for the win, and was backed with some strong defense.

“We only made one error, which is a far cry from some games lately,” Olsen said. “Caleb was very efficient, and we had good defense behind him.”

Scott was almost as good, holding the Huskies scoreless through the opening seven innings.

It was the third straight pitchers’ duel the Cubs have been involved in after a pair of tight games against St. Bernard’s on Saturday.

“Hat’s off to South Fork, they played very good defensively too,” Olsen said.

The loss was just the second for the Cubs who are now 7-2.

Branson Gans finished 2-for-3 for the Huskies and scored the game’s only run on Johnson’s clutch hit, something the Huskies have struggled with this season.

Fortuna is scheduled to play at St. Bernard’s on Thursday, weather permitting.

South Fork is scheduled to play a Little 4 doubleheader at Ferndale on Saturday.
