Eureka Police Vehicle Investigation Results in Two Arrested on Weapons Charges

On April 23, 2019, at about 12:15 p.m., the Eureka Police Department’s Waterfront/Parks
Ranger conducted a vehicle investigation in a parking lot on Hilfiker Lane. The vehicle’s
registration was expired and the license plate displayed false tags.
During the investigation, the two occupants of the vehicle were found to be in possession
of a loaded firearm, parts to manufacture a firearm, a blowgun, and approximately one
pound of marijuana. The occupants were identified as Gordon Dale Briggs Jr. (39 of
Eureka) and Cheyenne Filyau-Alfred (24 of Eureka).
Briggs and Filyau-Alfred were placed under arrest and transported to the Humboldt
County Correctional Facility. Briggs was booked for felon in possession of a firearm,
felon in possession of ammunition, manufacturing of a short barreled rifle/shotgun,
possession of a blowgun, possession of over 28 grams of marijuana, displaying false
vehicle registration, and having no proof of insurance. Filyau-Alfred was booked for
possession of a concealed, loaded firearm on a person / in a vehicle.
