Stacey Jeanette Smith passed away on April 15, 2019 at the age of 50.

She was born on March 30, 1969, in Fortuna. She is survived by her mother, Linda Hamel, father, Jim Smith and step mother Susie Smith, along with her brother, Justin Smith. She resided in Humboldt County her entire life, mostly in the Fortuna and outlying areas. She leaves three children, Cory Smith of Fortuna, Kevin Smith of Hydesvville, and Cheyenne Moreno of Fortuna, and three beautiful grandchildren, Bryson, Adyn and Huxley, with another one on the way.

Stacey had a reverent love for the great outdoors. She spent a lot of time in the Kneeland and Alton areas where she developed her love for ranching, tending animals and cutting, stacking and burning firewood like the true pioneer woman that she was. She loved to conquer new ground in the garden and often had her hands in the dirt. Her fascination and love for natural elements that she found in nature was her lifeline and passion and she passed on many of her findings to other friends and family that shared her interest. She especially had a passion for all kinds of mosses and lichens and played with them in artistic ways, which brought her a lot of joy. She was as happy as she could be in a flannel shirt, overalls and a pair of hiking boots. Stacey was loved and will be missed by so many people and when her family and friends find themselves in the great outdoors she will be by their sides in heart, soul and spirit.

The event of Stacey’s death allowed her to be an organ donor and her family is comforted in the thought that through her, others will have their lives extended.

Her family will be planning a Celebration of Life gathering in the next couple of months and hope that all that knew and loved her will be able to attend.
