Janice Lee (Cossairt) Kulp passed away in Medford on April 17, 2019 due to complications from breast cancer. Born in Paynesville, Minnesota on July 10, 1943, Mom moved to Eureka with her family when she was 13. She married Bill Martin a few years later and had two daughters. Her first job was working as a telephone operator for Pacific Bell. She remarried and we began our adventure throughout the United States where we lived in a number of states our growing up years. Eureka was where family lived and we returned home often during those years away.

Her love of travel continued throughout her life where she followed her heart throughout California, Washington, Oregon, and finally back to Minnesota. She especially loved her home in Santa Rosa in the 1980s where she grew the biggest vegetable garden ever! She moved to Medford to be closer to her family only a few years ago from Redmond. Mother was planning to make her final move back to Eureka.

Janice dearly loved her daughters, grew a vegetable garden every summer, and doted on her Shar-Pei dogs. She would can green beans, freeze tomatoes and zucchini, and always had fresh veggies to eat. She was most proud of returning to school to earn a medical transcriptionist certificate, a job that she kept until just a few months before her passing.

A 1961 graduate of Eureka High School, Mother was a lifelong learner. She always had the latest books on her reading list, cookbooks and recipes torn from magazines and the newspaper, and magazine subscriptions about places to travel. She took a trip to Germany to explore her roots, trips to New York and Hawaii for sightseeing, and a cruise to Alaska.

Janice was preceded in death by her grandparents, the Leistmans and Cossairts of Minnesota, parents Dwain and Virginia Cossairt of Eureka, brothers Jim and Richard Cossairt, ex-husband Stephen Kulp, and son-in-law Ben Casey.

Mom is survived by her daughters Sherri (Bill) Hicks, and Vicki Casey, both of Eureka; granddaughters Natalie (David) Renfer of Eureka, Valerie (Jeremy) Canfield of Eureka, Stephanie (Beau) Goodwin of Blue Lake, and Rebecca (Scott) Sapers of Montebello; grandson Wayne Hicks and fiancé Rachael McCain of Eureka. She leaves behind five great-grandchildren: Ella, Conner, Cade, Kasey, and Carter. She is survived by two sisters and two brothers: Elaine (Raymond) Lindblom of Las Vegas, Margie Ingersoll of Medford, Robert (Rose) Cossairt of Grants Pass, and Jeffrey (Janis) Cossairt of Eureka. She leaves behind her sister-in-law Wanda Cossairt and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also dearly missed by her best friend Judy Mahoney of Spokane.

The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and support staff from the Providence Medical Center in Medford and Linda Vista Care Home in Ashland, who cared for Mom and helped her daughters through this difficult time.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate and remember Janice’s life. Join us for a potluck at 4316 Union Street, Eureka on May 4, 2019 at 1 p.m. Bring a dish to share if you would like. A family gathering in Minnesota will be arranged in May.
