Press release from Humboldt Bay Fire:
On February 27th @ 0139hrs Humboldt Bay Fire was dispatched to Structure Fire in the 5400 block of Walnut Dr. in Cutten. Humboldt Bay Fire responded with 3 Engines, 1 Truck and one Chief Officer. The first arriving unit arrived on scene and found a single story residential structure with moderate smoke visible from the attached garage. The occupants had evacuated the residence and were all accounted for on the front lawn.
The first arriving engine made entry into the garage through an exterior man door and extinguished the fire. The door from the garage into the residence remained closed throughout the incident which prevented smoke from entering the living area. The fire was controlled in 15 minutes and fire damage was limited to a corner of the garage and estimated at $5000. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries and Humboldt Bay Fire units remained on scene for 1 ½ hours. The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature and PG&E secured all utility services to the residence.
Humboldt Bay Fire would like to remind all households to have a fire evacuation plan that includes a meeting place outside their home so arriving firefighters can easily account for the occupants of the residence.
