College of the Redwoods dropped three games in baseball at Hartnell over the weekend, including a disappointing one-run loss in the opener.

The Corsairs rallied late in Friday’s opener to score three runs in the top of the ninth and take a one-run advantage, only to see the lead disappear as the home team scored twice in the bottom half of the inning to win 5-4.

The Corsairs dropped a second game on Friday by a score of 3-1, before losing a high-scoring series finale on Saturday by a score of 16-4.

With the three losses, the Corsairs dropped to 1-5.

James Garcia had a big weekend, getting hits in all three games, including going 4-for-5 in the opener.

Hokeem Sadon also had two hits in the opener, while Andrew Enwiya finished with a pair of doubles and an RBI.

On the mound, Luis Pimentel and Lucas Hardy were unable to dominate like they each had on the opening weekend against Mendocino, allowing 15 hits between them in the loss.

The Corsairs managed just three hits in the second game, failing to give much run support to pitcher Garrett Poblick.

The freshman from Lake Arrowhead had a strong outing, allowing three hits and four walks in a six-inning complete game, while striking out three.

Charles Morgan had one of CR’s three hits and the team’s lone RBI.

In game three, Gannon Cyphers went 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead a six-hit team performance.

Cyphers has wasted little time adjusting to the collegiate game this season and has been one of his team’s most consistent players thus far, getting hits in all six games.

The Corsairs however, were unable to stop a potent Hartnell offense on Saturday, giving up nine runs in the third inning to essentially end the game early.

CR trailed 16-1 after six innings.

Four pitchers saw action for the Corsairs, including Colton Stokesberry from St. Bernard’s, as well as multi-sport athlete Angelo Flores, who played football for CR and is the reigning CC state champion in the javelin.

The four pitchers combined to allow 16 hits.

Garcia capped a big weekend with a double.

The Corsairs are scheduled to play one game at Laney on Friday and three at Los Medanos on Saturday and Sunday.

CR softball is also scheduled to open the season this weekend.
