The Humboldt B52s were pushed all the way in game two of their three-game series with the younger Humboldt Eagles 19U on Thursday, battling back from a late three-run deficit to pull out a 5-3 win.

The B52s scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, tying the game on a big Cole Harper base hit, and then sealed the come-from-behind win with runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings.

And with the B52s bullpen untouchable, that was all they would need.

Tommy Gale got the win in relief of starter Ruben Rios, throwing 2.2 hitless innings and striking out three.

Karter Koch pitched the final inning, with three quick outs to seal the win, as the B52s improved to 4-1 with their second win over the visiting American Legion club in two days.

The Eagles were the more industrious of the two teams early on, taking a one-run lead in the top of the first and adding to their advantage with additional scores in the fourth and fifth.

McKinleyville junior Cameron Saso did enough on the hill to frustrate the more experienced B52 bats through the opening five innings.

Saso, who allowed two earned runs on five hits and one walk, was pulled in the sixth. He struck out five.

Landon Gomes took the loss in relief of the starter, allowing three earned runs on three hits and five walks.

At the plate, Cody Emmons continued his impressive start to the summer season for the Eagles, finishing 3-for-5.

For the B52s, Brian Orr, Braeden Holliday and Spencer Duggan all remained hot.

Orr paced the offense, going 3-for-5 with a double, while Duggan and Holliday each had two hits and an RBI.

Former Del Norte standout Harper was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, tying the game on his clutch hit.

For the Eagles, who dropped to 4-2, JB Lewis, Jaden Gorge, Gannon Cyphers, Scott Coffelt, Dustin Ireland and Kalebh Hill each had a hit in what was a balanced team effort.

The two clubs conclude their three-game series at Bomber Field on Friday night at 7:05 p.m.

Arcata standout Merek Sears will get the start on the mound for the Eagles.
