Press release from Eureka High Students participating in the Global Youth Climate Strike:

Eureka High School students plan to participate in the Youth Climate Strike on Friday, March 15, at 11 am.

Decades of inaction has left the world with just 11 years to change the trajectory of the worst effects of climate change, according to the Oct 2018 United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Report and students around the world will walk out of school to show their resolve to win a Green New Deal and a safe and liveable future for our generation.

Eureka High participants plan to walk out of classes at 11 am and march to the Humboldt County Superior Court, where HSU Professor Sarah Ray will speak, a petition will be available to be signed, and protest signs will be held. Although this is a youth strike, organizers have invited all community members to participate.

Our world leaders have yet to acknowledge, prioritize, or properly address our climate crisis. If the social order is disrupted by the students’ refusal to attend school, then the system is forced to face the climate crisis and enact change.
