The Tigers are off to an impressive start this season, capping a three-win weekend with a doubleheader sweep at Kelseyville on Saturday.
The Tigers, who are now 5-0, won 13-8 and 6-1, after beginning the weekend with a 7-1 win at Willits on Friday.
“They’re a pretty good team,” Arcata head coach Troy Ghisetti said of Kelseyville. “To walk away with two wins is good for us.”
The dynamic pitching duo of Merek Sears and Jaden Gorge got the wins on the mound for the Tigers.
In game one, Sears went five innings, striking out six and walking two, before Ben Narwold came in for the save.
At the plate, Mason Nichols hit a grand slam and finished 2-for-4, while Mason Trapkus was 2-for-5 and also had a home run.
Xavier Finegan went 3-for-4, while Vincent Agilio and Gorge each had two hits.
In game two, Gorge gave up nine hits but struck out 11, allowing just the one run.
Finegan capped a big day with three more hits, while Alex Gorge was 2-for-4.
The Tigers did commit seven errors on the day.
“The bats came alive,” Ghisetti said. “But defensively we had some miscues. We made some errors. But we’ll get there.”
