Former Eureka Logger Brendon Fischel got his senior campaign in college baseball off to a flying start this past weekend, as Carleton College traveled to Arizona to compete at the Tucson Invitational Games,

Fischel hit his first career college home run in a 7-4 loss to Concordia University out of Wisconsin on Sunday, and followed that with his second the following day in an 8-4 loss to Oberlin College.

Fischel’s first career dinger came with two outs in the top of the fifth inning and gave his team a 4-1 advantage.

Unfortunately for Carleton, a Division-III program in Minnesota, it would not last as the Wisconsin school battled back to score six unanswered runs.

Through the opening eight games of the season, the 2015 Eureka High grad is batting .391 and has provided much of his team’s power at the plate with five extra base hits.

In addition to his two homers, Fischel also has three doubles and a team-high 10 RBIs.

Teammate Jacob Smith, a 2018 McKinleyville grad, saw limited action, appearing in three games and going 1-for-2.

Carleton is 2-6 on the season.

Fischel’s younger brother Ethan is also playing college ball as a freshman at Willamette University and appears to be adapting quickly to the new level.

The younger Fischel has appeared in 20 of the Bearcats’ 21 games, and is batting .257 with three doubles, a home run and 10 RBIs.
