Jarid Jorgensen led the way for the College of the Redwoods track team at last weekend’s Humboldt Invite at the Redwood Bowl.

Jorgensen recored a State A qualifying mark with a throw of 51.12 meters in the hammer, breaking his own personal best by a whopping 13 feet.

And it wasn’t the only breakthrough mark for the CR sophomore, who also took second in the discus with another state qualifying throw of 45.72, which broke his previous PR by four feet.

All in all, it was an outstanding day for Jorgensen.

CR capped a good day in the throwing competitions with a second and third in the men’s javelin.

Chee Shorty was second with a throw of 130 feet, 2 inches, and Teejay Tome was third with a 119-9.

CR’s Grant VanEmmerik won the 400m in a time of 49.12, while Tana Liana took first in the 110 hurdles (16.14 seconds) and second in the 100m (11.48)

DJ Snowton was sixth in the 100m with a time of 11.69

“This was a great meet for us,” CR head coach Reed Elmore said. “It is still a bit early and we had an athlete qualify for state in two events and two athletes flirting with the state qualifying marks.”

On the women side, Bobbie Purify took first in the long jump (17-4), barely missing out on a State qualifying mark (17-5).

Purify was also second in the 200m with a time of 27.17, a new personal best.

In the same event, Katie Bergor also recorded a PR with a time of 28.99, placing sixth.

Bergor rounded out an impressive day with another PR in the 400m, timing a 1:04.46 and placing sixth.

Teammate Maria Overton ran a 5:26 in the 1500m, which was just off her season best.

In the women’s throwing competitions, Savannah Henninger placed fourth in both the shot put (32-5) and the Hammer (124-9), while Olivia Dillard was fifth in both the hammer (113-3) and the Discus (98-3).

Jacks set several PRs

The HSU track and field teams captured conference championship qualifying times and flirted with national provisional qualifying marks at the same meet.

Lily Bankas led the way, winning both the shot put (12.61) and discus (44.99), with a PR in the latter that was just outside of a national provisional mark (45.11).

DeReginald Walker also took first in the discus and shot put, and finished second in the hammer, with all of his marks PRs.

Jaye Washington also put together a first-place performance in the long jump with a jump of 6.69m, also a personal best.

Hope Brecto also recorded a PR in the 5k (19:07.89), almost 20 seconds better than her old record.

In her first race since returning from knee surgery, Ellie Earle-Rouse won the 800m with a time of 2:18.82.

Cheianne Armstrong won the 200m (26.98) and finished second in the 400m (1:01.35), both PRs.
