George Allen Machett, 72, passed away on Wednesday , February 13, 2019 at the Mad River Hospital in Arcata. George Machett, also known as “the bear,” was born on Dec. 29, 1946 in Chicago.

He was a cheerful person and lived a colorful life.

George served in the US Marine Corp and later on, as veteran, devoted much of his life to studying.

After moving to Blue Lake in Humboldt County, where he spend the rest of his life, he enrolled at the Humboldt State University as well as the College of the Redwoods. He studied zoology and achieved a bachelor in Biotechnology.

George’s interests were plenty — the study of plants and animals, foreign cultures and countries, art and music, technology and science. Another big passion of his was practicing martial arts. He loved reading and collecting antiques.

Accomplishing many certifications as a first responder in catastrophic emergency situations, he devoted a lot of his time to training and educating other people.

George was a practicing Christian and active member of the Northfork Full Gospel Church. He was a gentle soul with many friends who lived his life with great passion, love, much humor and laughter.

Being a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather, George will be missed by his wife, Ramona Machett; his brother Robert; his children Michelle Peloton-Bounds, Charles Mondragon, Gwen Machett, Waco Machett and Danielle; as well as their significant others and his grandchildren — Jacob, Charlee, Michael, Ama and Izak.

God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So he put his arms around you
And whispered
Come to me.

With tearful eyes we watch you
And saw you pass away
And although we loved you dearly
We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating
Hard working hands at rest.
God heals our hearts by knowing
|He only takes the best.

The service will be held at the Northfork Full Gospel Church in McKinleyville on March 30th at 11 a.m. Familiy and friends are invited to attend and share their memories.

We thank all who helped us through this difficult time so very much.
