An 18-year-old crashed a stolen Dodge Neon into a boat that was sitting atop a parked trailer this afternoon while speeding through a residential block of Eureka, according to officials at the scene.
Eureka Police Sgt. Stanley Harkness tells the Outpost‘s Andrew Goff that Anthony McGrew of Rio Dell stole the Neon from the 1400 block of Union, near the nonprofit Food For People.
Witnesses say he was traveling west on the 500 block of West Sonoma Street at a high rate of speed when he hit the boat around 1:45 p.m.
McGrew was arrested at the scene on suspicion of vehicle theft and transported to St. Joseph Hospital for medical evacuation. The Eureka Police are still investigating whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
The boat’s owner suspects that his craft is totaled, Harkness said.
