Press release from Humboldt State University:

Due to the county-wide power outage, the HSU campus remains CLOSED through at least Thursday, October 10. All classes as well as regularly scheduled activities and events are canceled. Buildings across campus are closed. 

During the outage, parking permits are not required to park on campus.

Student Resources:

  • Food service at the J during regular hours is available for all HSU students, including those who live off-campus.

  • Residence hall staff will be available 24/7. If you need support, call (707) 826-3451. 

  • CAPS counselors are available in person on the third floor of the JGC. They are available from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Please stop by the Housing front desk and ask to speak with a counselor. There is also 24 availability of CAPS counseling by phone at 707.826.3236 if you would like to speak with someone outside of business hours or simply prefer to speak with someone on the phone.

  • Charging: Charging stations are available in the Klamath River Room on the third floor of the Jolly Giants Commons. First come first serve.

  • Residence halls: On-campus students are advised to stay in their residence halls, avoid lighting candles, and keep refrigerators closed. Residence staff will be placing limited lighting for the evenings in the restrooms of the Hill and the Canyon buildings.

  • Extra sheets and blankets are available to check out for free in the Jolly Giant Commons Rec Room.

  • Accommodations: Temporary on-campus accommodations are available for students who live off campus and would feel more comfortable staying on campus.

  • Activities: An outdoor barbecue will take place by the Jolly Giant Commons beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Movies will be shown on the first floor of the Jolly Giant Commons from 5 p.m. until midnight.

  • Employment and Compensation: Students who were scheduled to work will be compensated during the outage. Payroll checks and financial aid refunds can be picked up Thursday and Friday, noon to 3 p.m., at the Admissions welcome desk on the first floor of the Student Business Services building.   • Please check in with your friends and neighbors, as internet and cellular service can be intermittent.

  • During the outage, parking permits are not required to park in campus lots. 

Employee Resources:

  • When power is shut down, employees may leave if allowed by their appropriate administrator. Such leave will be paid-time-off for this week or until the power outage ends, whichever is the shorter of the two.

  • During periods of full or partial campus closure, employees who have already scheduled sick leave, vacation, personal holiday or CTO will still be charged for that time, unless the relevant collective bargaining agreement states otherwise.

  • Employees will be expected to return to work as soon as power is restored and the University is open. This can happen at any time.
