Buck was born September 9, 1951 in Drain, Oregon and passed away March 19, 2020 in Eureka. He was the 2nd born of 14 kids and passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He graduated from Eureka High in 1970 and spent several summers working at Trinity Lake Resort Marina. During the winter months he spent his time snow skiing up on Horse Mountain, another sport that he excelled in.

He worked for the auto industry for over 40 years, starting out at John Ehret Dodge back in the late ‘70s, early ‘80s. Eventually he started his own business, B&M Auto, and continued working until he no longer could.

Buck always loved a good hunt in Montana or Oregon for elk or just hunting locally in Blocksburg for deer. Any time he could head out on the ocean for fishing and not go to work, he considered a good day. We’ll always remember going crabbing, bringing fresh crab back to the shop, cooking them and eating them warm right out of the cooker.

Summers were spent up at Ruth Lake, boating, parasailing or on the jet skiis. He loved to take the kids out on the boat, sit them on the bow and “dumpster dive.” You could hear the kids laughing as they all got wet. He was an excellent water skier, but after he broke his leg, it was hard for him to ski. Dad was always making sure everyone had a good meal, a good time and those are the memories we will cherish.

Back in 1988 dad broke his leg and shattered the bones in his ankle and lower leg. He fell off a cliff down in Ft. Bragg, after a morning of abalone diving. This forever changed his life. For the next couple years, he was unable to do some of the things he loved most. Water ski, snow ski and he had to stop going to Alaska for salmon fishing for several years, which was not easy for him. He finally went, against doctors orders. (We all know how stubborn he was!)

Buck is survived by Anita Owens and their children, Brenna Owens (Andrew), grand daughter Eleanore of Pocatello, Idaho, Derrick Owens (Mollie) and grand daughters Addison and Brooklynn of Pocatello, Idaho and Kaylynn Owens of Texas. He leaves behind several brothers, Michael, Steven and Ronald Owens, sisters Kathy Owens (Fink), Lynn and Betsy Owens. Siblings Earl, Roger, Gail, William and Robert Cobb. He is pre-deceased by his brother Donald Owens and infant sister Debbie Cobb.

We would like to thank the Goddard Family, Tenaya, Cody, Tyler, Camerin, Kaileigh and Clay for taking care of dad during the last 4 months and making him comfortable in his last days. He was with a family who loved him and took care of him like he was family and made his last days stress free.

We are planning a memorial later this summer and will let everyone know of the date.
