On Friday February 21, 2020, at approximately 10:21 am, an attempted bank robbery occurred at the Umpqua Bank Downtown Arcata branch. The suspect fled on foot prior to receiving any money.
The Arcata Police Department, with the assistance of the public, the Humboldt State University Police Department, Humboldt County Department of Adult Probation and the FBI Fortuna Field Office, was able to identify the suspect as 18-year-old Arcata resident, Jacob Dylan Cutler Richards.
At approximately 6:47 pm, Richards was taken into custody by APD, without incident, as he left a residence in the 1200 block of L Street in Arcata. Richards was booked in to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on the charge of attempted robbery.
