The storm that just started battering the North Coast has claimed its first victim: Highway 199 was just closed between Crescent City and Gasquet, due to trees down across the roadway.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s dispatch center, trees are “popping” due to snow along the main thoroughfare between the North Coast and southern Oregon. They’re down across the road and blocking traffic in both directions.
There’s currently no estimated time of reopening, but you can follow updates from the California Highway Patrol and Caltrans at the links below:
- Caltrans: “Northbound/Southbound 199 Full Closure”
- California Highway Patrol: “Traffic Hazard at 1042 Highway 199”
We’ll have more in the morning.
