The Eureka girls dropped their opener at the Stonebarger Tournament at Liberty High on Thursday night, falling 58-52 to a good Half Moon Bay team.

Carly Boynton led the Loggers with 18 points, while Sophia Chalmers finished with 16 points and McKenna Beach seven.

“We played hard,” head coach Michael Harvey said. “We didn’t play our best game, but the effort was there.”

The Loggers, who were missing three key players for sickness or personal reasons, will continue tournament play against Dixon on Friday at 5 p.m.

The Eureka girls are now 11-4.

Also at the tournament, the Arcata girls dropped their opener on Thursday, falling to Dixon 36-34.

Fortuna 51, Gridley 46, OT

The Fortuna girls kept their impressive run going with a sixth straight win on Thursday, opening the Las Plumas tournament with an overtime victory.

The Huskies, who are now 12-1 on the season, were led by Charlotte Carroll with 22 points, while Moncerrat Bernal added 11 points and Kendall Stewart finished with eight points.

“The girls played hard to pull out the win,” head coach Scott Betts said.

The high-flying Huskies will continue tournament play against Oroville on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Del Norte 41, Foothill 51

The Warriors struggled to shoot the ball on Thursday as they dropped their opener at the Enterprise tournament.

The Del Norte girls managed just 3-of-28 from 3-point range in the 10-point loss.

Junior Jadence Clifton continued to pace the Warriors with 28 points and 12 rebounds, as well as dishing out three assists.

Freshman Lily Wilson added four points and nine rebounds, while Olivia Stillwell had four points and two rebounds.

According to head coach Justin Clifton, the Warriors played decent defense against the Cougars, but were out-rebounded.

They continue tourney play on Friday against Corning at 3:30 p.m.

BOYS

Fortuna 64, Willows 40

The Huskies returned to winning ways and ended a three-game losing skid by beating Willows on Thursday night to open the Corning Shootout.

Fernando Atilano continued his impressive season with a team-high 17 points in the win, as the Fortuna boys upped their mark to 6-7.

Bo Cox also had a big game with 13 points.

The Huskies, who open the Big 5 at McKinleyville next Wednesday, continue tournament play against Anderson on Friday.
