Fortuna Police Department press release:
On January 26, 2020 Fortuna officers responded to a medical call in Fortuna for a reported accidental overdose of prescription medication.
Once with the subject in need of assistance, officers observed the subject presenting signs of an opioid overdose. Fortuna officers were equipped with nasal Narcan in November of 2019, which is utilized to combat the effects of an opioid overdose. Officers began using “life-saving efforts” utilizing the department issued nasal Narcan to treat the apparent opioid overdose. Utilizing the Narcan, Officers were successful in stabilizing the subject until emergency medical services arrived.
The subject was transported to Redwood Memorial Hospital. The subject recovered and has been released from the hospital.
This is the first use of department issued Narcan since it was issued in November of 2019.
