If you are one of the people who have contacted us about a plume of dark smoke shooting up from the Eureka waterfront, here is the story about that: It is a pile of wood and trash on fire.
Humboldt Bay Fire’s Amy Conlin tells the Outpost at the scene that they had originally organized a large response to this incident, because of the vast amount of smoke that was seen rising into the air, but then firefighters got there and found something they could handle with a crew or two.
Still, they’ve extended one of the big ladders and are raining down upon this medium-sized pile of flaming Waterfront debris, which burns in the empty lot just southwest of the Wharfinger. Should be handled soon.
