From the California Highway Patrol:
On 05/29/20, at approximately 3:13pm, William Legrain was driving his 2011 Kia Sedona northbound on US-101, south of Barkdull Rd., with Caitlyn Shaffer seated in the front passenger seat and two children in the rear passenger seats.
At this location, an alternate traffic pattern was established for maintenance and repairs. Northbound traffic was diverted to the a southbound lane. Orange traffic delineators separated the northbound and southbound traffic. While the Kia was traveling northbound, an unknown vehicle traveling southbound collided with a delineator. This impact caused the delineator to become airborne and projected into the direct path of the Kia. The delineator collided with the Kia, penetrated the front windshield, and entered the passenger compartment. The front passenger sustained major injuries and one of the juvenile rear passengers sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision. The driver and second juvenile passenger were not injured.
The California Highway Patrol Garberville Area is asking the public for any information which may lead to the identity of the southbound vehicle that struck the delineator. If you have information please contact the Garberville Area office, M-F 8am - 5pm at 707-923-2155 or after hours at 707-268-2000.
