COVID-19 and the Shelter in Place orders have taken our lives and turned them upside down over the past few months. Our norms are no longer our norms and our routines are anything but routine anymore.

As we reported recently, the Eureka Police Department has seen an increase in Domestic Violence and Family Disturbance calls for service during the Shelter in Place. More troublesome is we have also seen an increase in the violence occurring during these calls for service.

Captain Brian Stephens reached out to some of our Community Partners and was able to put together a panel of experts in this field to sit down and talk about Domestic Violence and to provide resources for those needing assistance to reach out to during these times. The following agencies took part in the discussion: Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Branch, Healthy Communities Division, Two Feather Native American Family Services, Humboldt Domestic Violence Services and Captain Stephens.

Captain Stephens said, “During these trying times we need to let our communities know, especially those community members experiencing domestic or family issues, that the organizations designed to support them are here for them and open for business. I hope the information shared in the video will help educate survivors as well as their friends and families, on the resources available as well as how to be supportive during these incredibly stressful and dangerous situations.”
