As society nears total shutdown to prevent further spread of COVID-19, many religious organizations in Humboldt County have opted to cancel in-church services and are instead streaming them online.

In response, the Outpost has created a long list of religious groups in the general Humboldt Bay area that are providing updates on how COVID-19 is affecting their services.

See how your religious gatherings may be affected below:

Eureka

Temple Beth El:

UPDATE MONDAY, MARCH 16: We hope you are all well and staying healthy and caring for yourselves and each other at this challenging time. In light of the governor’s most current announcement regarding gatherings and per CDC recommendations, we have decided on the following:

• The temple building is now closed to the general public as well as members (with the exception of essential staff) through at least April 25.

• Friday evening services will be live streamed at their regularly scheduled times via Facebook Live. Saturday morning services will be offered via Zoom video conferencing. This modified Shabbat morning service will include prayers, music, Torah reading and expanded Torah study beginning at 10:00 a.m. Later this week we will provide instructions on how to view and participate in our live streamed services and activities.

The Town Church:

If we do decide to cancel Sunday gatherings in the future, we will institute some kind of virtual gathering on Sunday mornings. Check our Facebook www.facebook.com/thetownchurch and our website for ongoing updates.

Sacred Heart Church:

Due to concerns over the spreading of disease, Religious Education classes will be cancelled for the next two weeks. We will be following the lead of local schools in this matter for the safety of our children and our community, so we may be cancelled for longer. This will in no way impact the reception of Sacraments this year, so we encourage families to spend this time working at home to help children learn their prayers, as well as learn their faith from their families.

Faith Center:

Moving online.

Harvest Church Eureka:

We will continue to have corporate public worship services at Harvest Church on Sunday mornings beginning at 9:45 a.m. for coffee and fellowship and 10:05 a.m. for worship. There will be no public worship at our facility on March 22 and March 29.

Dear Church Family,
We have all been watching the news and hearing of activities within our communities and country being placed on hold and/or cancelled due to the coronavirus.

Today our District Superintendent, Albert Hung, has asked that our district churches to participate in the recommended health guidelines to protect the lives of those who are vulnerable in our churches and cities. Because of these recommendations, we will be cancelling the next two Sunday services (March 15th and 22nd). We will hopefully resume our Sunday services on March 28th, with Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. and our worship service at 10:30 a.m.

Cutten Community Church:

Yes! Cutten Community Church will continue to have a Sunday Celebration Service at 10:30 am. At this time, we do not plan to alter our service schedule. However, in light of current events, we ask that each person exercise good judgement. Those who are more susceptible (elderly and those with health issues or who are currently sick) should consider staying home. We will continue to attempt to livestream our Sunday morning services here on our Facebook page for those who who feel that they are not able to attend.

First Covenant Church of Eureka:

After considering the guidelines given by the Evangelical Covenant Church and civil authorities, we’ve decided on the following steps to keep our church and community safe:

Arcata

Arcata First Baptist Church:

Yes, at this time we are planning to continue to meet on Sunday mornings. One of the wonderful things about AFBC is our culture of hospitality and the love and friendliness we have as a congregation. For the time being we will also be skipping greeting time on Sunday morning as a precautionary, proactive measure.

Fortuna St. Francis’ Episcopal Church:

Out of concern for the most vulnerable in our midst, Bishop Megan has directed that all congregations within the diocese cease physically gathering for Sunday worship beginning with this Sunday, March 15. Until further notice I feel that it is most prudent that we suspend all gatherings at the church until the extreme danger of COVID-19 is passed and we are again permitted to gather at the church for Sunday worship.
