Alfred
Roy Dias III, mostly commonly known as “Butch” Dias, passed away
at St Joseph Hospital on Thursday, March 26 at 10:35 p.m.
Butch was born at Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna on July 8, 1962. He graduated from Fortuna Union High School in 1980 and was a lifelong resident of Fortuna. He worked as a meat butcher for his entire career of 40+ years. Most recently he passed on his knowledge of meat cutting to his youngest son, who opened up his own butcher shop in Fortuna — Springville Meat Co.
Butch was an avid deer hunter, fisherman and loved the outdoors. He spent much time with his sons sharing his outdoor hobbies and bottle collecting interest.
He was a volunteer with the Fortuna Fire Department for 24 years. As a fireman, he served in Company #1, which his father also served for 50 years. With the Fortuna Fire Department, Butch served on the Fortuna Rodeo Board and was responsible for the yearly community BBQ.
Butch was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Roy Dias II, and also by his great uncle, Gilly Dias.
He is survived by his mother, Mary H. Dias; sister, Esther (John Hahn), brother; Tim Dias; and sons Tyson and Tanner (Kayla) and his two grandchildren; Raelyn and Greyson. Butch will forever be remembered by his nieces, extended family and friends.
A private family service was held at Fortuna Sunrise Cemetery. A public celebration will be held at a date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department or Fortuna Rodeo Association.
