Press release from the City of Eureka:

The City of Eureka is asking residents to help meet a dire community need during the COVID-19 outbreak: reusable masks or face coverings for our community members experiencing homelessness.

The use of simple cloth face coverings can slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others. Universal face coverings protect us all and have become mandatory in Humboldt County.  Please help ensure that our most vulnerable community members can comply and contribute to the beneficial impact of universal face coverings.

We are in this together and your support will help UPLIFT our community. Donated face masks or face coverings will be supplied to St. Vincent de Paul, The Eureka Rescue Mission and The Betty Kwan Chinn Day Center for distribution.

The City of Eureka welcomes any of the following face covering donations:

  • Homemade sewn masks
  • Homemade no-sew masks
  • Bandanas
  • Elastic Hair Ties

Reusable masks and face coverings can be dropped off at the donation box located outside of the main entrance of Eureka City Hall (531 K Street) weekdays from 8:30am-Noon and 1pm-4pm. Please wear a face covering when dropping off your donation.

A resource website (DonateMasksEureka.com) has been created to help provide templates and examples for people of all abilities to help. Whether you are proficient with a sewing machine, or have never sewn before, there are many ways you can contribute to this community need.

Many people in the community have asked about making monetary gifts. UPLIFT Eureka is gratefully accepting donations. Kindly visit www.DonateMasksEureka.com and click on the Make a Donation button.

The City of Eureka continues to be inspired by the outpouring of support from our community, including the many masks that have already been donated by our local retailers, Bubbles and Mend Arcata.

While we are socially distant, we can still come together. To learn about all the ways you can make a positive impact, please visit www.DonateMasksEureka.com.
