Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal and Eureka Police Chief Steve Watson met with protesters outside of Eureka Police headquarters this evening to express that they too want justice for George Floyd.

Video of the encounter shows officers addressing the crowd with a megaphone before sharing hugs with protesters and joining them in chanting: “No justice, no peace! No Racist Police!’”

“What happened to George Floyd was wrong and never should have happened,” Watson told protesters. “I’m outraged by it, you’re outraged by it … [the officer] deserved to be arrested, they deserved to be held accountable.”

Sheriff Honsal also addressed the crowd and thanked them for gathering.

“We hear you!” Honsal said. “No Justice no Peace. We are Peace officers. We want that. We hear that.”
