The Alibi Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge kitchen was shut down by a food inspector on Friday for committing a major health code violation.

According to the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services, the business was closed due to a failing wastewater disposal system.

“The wastewater disposal system has failed, causing greywater from the grease-laden wastewater-generating equipment to be discharged in an unapproved manner,” the DHHS report reads. “[The Division of Environmental Health] is suspending the permit to operate a food facility until which time a fully-functioning wastewarer disposal system is installed or the existing system is repaired to the satisfaction of this department and City of Arcata.”

The Alibi’s bar area is still open during this time. The business has until October 30, to come into compliance with DHHS regulations.
