Press release from the California Highway Patrol:

On 01-30-2021, at approximately 1:13 AM, the Humboldt Area CHP received a report of a head on collision on Fernbridge Dr., north of the Finch Creek Rd. under-crossing. A preliminary investigation by CHP determined that a 2006 Honda Civic, being driven by 25 year old Tiannah Ruvalcaba of Phillipsville, CA, was traveling northbound on Fernbridge Dr., north of the Finch Creek Rd. under-crossing. A 1988 Ford Mustang was traveling southbound on Fernbridge Dr., approaching the Honda Civic.

For unknown reasons, one of the vehicles crossed over the broken yellow line separating the lanes, and the vehicles collided head-on. The driver of the Mustang suffered major injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced deceased by emergency medical personnel on scene. Ms. Ruvalcaba also suffered major injuries and was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital.

Impairment is being investigated as a contributing factor in this collision and Ms. Ruvalcaba was placed under arrest for Misdemeanor DUI charges related to the collision. She was subsequently released to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.
