On June 23, 2021, at about 6:54 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 2700 block of Myrtle Avenue, in the county’s jurisdiction of Eureka, for the report of a car prowler.

Deputies arrived in the area and located an individual matching the description of the suspect walking along Harris Street near Freese Avenue. When deputies attempted to speak with the suspect, he fled on foot. Deputies pursued the suspect into the backyard of a residence. The suspect was located hiding behind bushes.  

The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Eduardo Sutherland Lopez, was taken into custody without further incident. In Lopez’s possession, deputies located over 2.5 grams of methamphetamine, burglary tools, pepper spray and a replica firearm BB gun.

Lopez was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of possession of a controlled substance (HS 11377(a)), felon in possession of tear gas (PC 22810(a)), possession of burglary tools (PC 466), resisting a peace officer (PC 148(a)(1)) and violation of probation (PC 1203.2(a)(2)).

This case is still under investigation.
