From the Humboldt County Drug Task Force:
Throughout the month of February, Humboldt County Drug Task Force (HCDTF) Agents received information from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office regarding the smuggling of contraband into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility (HCCF). Throughout the investigation, Agents identified Ricardo Tranquilino Aguirre, 27, of Eureka as the involved correctional deputy.
HCDTF Agents were able to identify HCCF inmate, Caleb Weston Hoffarth, 25, of Eureka, as the inmate responsible for receiving the controlled substances and other contraband that Aguirre was bringing into the HCCF. Caleb HOFFARTH was booked at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility in November of 2020 for the following charges:
VC12500(a) Driving without a License
VC2800.2 Evading a Peace Officer
Outstanding Bench Warrants for:
PC3455(a) PRCS Revocation
HS11352(a) Transportation/Sale of a Controlled Substance
VC12500(a) Driving without a License
HOFFARTH had recently been sentenced to serve six years in state prison for the above charges and was awaiting transport to a California Department of Corrections facility.
The following charge will be requested for HOFFARTH’s involvement in this case:
PC182(a)(1) Conspiracy to Commit a Crime
Through their investigation, Agents discovered that HOFFARTH was communicating with Selina Chavez-Robles, 25, of Fortuna. CHAVEZ-ROBLES would facilitate the order of contraband and controlled substances placed by HOFFARTH. CHAVEZ-ROBLES would ensure the order was received by AGUIRRE who would then transport the contraband and controlled substances into the HCCF and deliver them to HOFFARTH.
In the early morning hours of March 5 th , 2021, HCDTF Agents, with the assistance of the Fortuna Police Department, detained Selina CHAVEZ-ROBLES. CHAVEZ-ROBLES was arrested and booked at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for PC182(a)(1) - Conspiracy to Commit a Crime - for her involvement in the case.
This investigation is currently ongoing. If other co-conspirators are identified, they will be arrested. Anyone with information related to this investigation or other narcotics related crimes are encouraged to call the Humboldt County Drug Task Force at 707-267-9976.
