On Oct. 12, 2021, at about 12:16 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies on patrol in the 2400 block of Myrtle Avenue observed a suspicious male exhibiting behavior consistent with attempting a car burglary.
Deputies contacted the man, 20-year-old Jacob Benning Moran, and learned that Moran had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. As deputies attempted to place Moran into custody for his warrant, Moran began to physically resist deputies. While resisting, Moran twice attempted to unholster a deputy’s service firearm.
After a brief struggle, Moran was arrested and then booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on fresh charges of attempting to remove a peace officer’s firearm (PC 148(d)) and resisting a peace officer (PC 148(a)(1)), in addition to his warrant charges of assault (PC 240) and battery (PC 242).
