UPDATE, 9:27 p.m.: Sheriff’s Office Releases Statement on Tonight’s Wild Chase Through Eureka

# # #

Eureka’s Harrison and Buhne streets are closed at their intersection, after a crash involving a vehicle that had been fleeing from police pursuit around the town that began just before 7:30 p.m.

According to scanner traffic transcribed at the time by Outpost scanner volunteer “Todd,” people in the suspect vehicle and the police are reported to have fired shots during the chase.

The chase ended about 10 minutes after it began, when the suspect vehicle — the white one, in pictures below captured by the Outpost’s Andrew Goff at the scene — crashed into another vehicle at the intersection.

Witnesses on the scene confirm what was reported on the scanner, which is that three people were briefly held at gunpoint before being taken into custody. The driver of the black vehicle appears to be fine.

Around a dozen police cars belonging to the Eureka Police Department, the Sheriff’s Office, and California State Parks Service are on scene, according to Goff.

We’ll certainly have much more on this tomorrow, or possibly later tonight if information becomes available before then.
