In a followup to a release issued yesterday by the Fortuna Police Department, Chief Casey Day now says that one of the people recently arrested by his department provided law enforcement with a false name. Day explains the mixup in the new release below:
Yesterday, the Fortuna Police Department issued a press release on recent arrests and seizures involving our department K-9’s.
We learned today that Russhia Lee Pittman (40 y/o Fortuna resident) lied about her identity and provided a false name of Sarah Sue Hopper.
It should be noted, Sarah Sue Hopper was not arrested and has no known criminal history.
Russhia Lee Pittman will now be charged with the original crimes of PC 25400 (c)(2), HS 11370.1(a), HS 11377(a) as listed in the original press release for Sarah and will now have felony charges filed with the district attorney for section 529(a)(3) – Every person who falsely personates another in either his or her private or official capacity, and in that assumed character does any of the following, is punishable pursuant to subdivision (b): Does any other act whereby, if done by the person falsely personated, he or she might, in any event, become liable to any suit or prosecution, or to pay any sum of money, or to incur any charge, forfeiture, or penalty, or whereby any benefit might accrue to the party personating, or to any other person.
And what about the false name given by Pittman? Well, it turns out Sarah Sue Hopper is a very real person and she is not pleased with the mixup, as evidenced by her Facebook post below:
