Press release from Access Humboldt:
Access Humboldt has officially acquired 341 West Harris Street, the former site of Poletski’s Appliances, to serve as its new permanent home. The acquisition marks the beginning of a two-year transformation of the building into the “Digital Innovation Center,” a modern production facility designed for all Humboldt Area residents to create television, radio, and digital content.
The acquisition team, led by Executive Director Christina Marie Jeffers, includes the Redwood Region Economic Commission, Humboldt Area Foundation, the City of Eureka, College Of The Redwoods, and Coldwell Banker Commercial Pacific Partners Real Estate.
“This is not just a building transaction,” said Jeffers. “This is a tremendous opportunity to develop the digital workforce through Public Access TV and Radio. This will be a ‘destination station’ where Humboldt residents can learn and grow with modern technology”.
The move follows the recent loss of Access Humboldt’s previous facility at the College of the Redwoods. Despite working remotely for the past several months, the organization has maintained uninterrupted service on WAVE Cable (Channel 7) and Optimum Cable (Channels 8, 10, 11, and 12), as well as online streaming.
The new Digital Innovation Center will also house studios and podcasting booths for KZZH-LP 96.7 FM, which is expected to resume broadcasting later this month following long needed repairs. A standardized training program is in development for the station in partnership with Cal Poly Humboldt and Lost Coast Communications, Inc.
Call for Volunteers Access Humboldt is calling on the community to help prepare its new home. Volunteers are needed to assist with moving in, cleaning, and painting the West Harris Street facility. If you would like to help build this community resource from the ground up, please contact the station to sign up.
