“I believe as long as people are breathing, there’s hope,” says new Eureka Mayor Kim Bergel.

Bergel, who took over the office just a few months ago after eight years as a councilmember, is putting her city’s most vulnerable citizens at the forefront of her agenda. 

What makes Bergel think her efforts can find solutions to the homelessness crisis — a problem that is far bigger than Eureka — after so many others have become jaded?
