Health inspectors have temporarily closed El Cora Mexican Food in Garberville after finding cockroaches “in various life stages” on shelves in a food storage room.
Live cockroaches were also found on a wall behind packaged beverages and in a closet. Dead cockroaches and rodent feces were spotted on the floor of a grease trap room.
During the routine inspection on Friday, Humboldt County’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) division of Environmental Health identified multiple instances of food stored at unsafe temperatures and no chlorine in the dish machine.
DHHS suspended the establishment’s food operating permit until the operators make a few corrections, including hiring a pest control service, adding lids to food storage containers, undertaking a deep clean, repairing a dish washing machine and properly sanitizing all dishes.
