Facebook post from the Sequoia Park Zoo:
Observant visitors haven’t been seeing double - there is a new panda face at home in the Zoo!
Last month, Sequoia Park Zoo quietly welcomed Henny - a spunky, young female red panda from the Buffalo Zoo in New York.
Henny is currently being cared for behind the scenes in the red panda habitat while she completes a standard quarantine process before gradually being introduced to Saffron and the rest of the habitat. Guests may be able to see her from the Redwood Sky Walk Ascent Ramp and red panda viewing areas.
We are so excited for Henny to join our animal family, and we look forward to sharing information and updates as we get to know her!
As an institution accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA), Sequoia Park Zoo participates in several coordinated breeding programs which ensure the greatest amount of genetic diversity across a population of animals in human care. Known as a Species Survival Plan (SSP), the goal of this important program is to maintain healthy, genetically diverse, and demographically stable populations. Sequoia Park Zoo is proud to care for many species, including red pandas, as part of the AZA’s Species Survival Plan.
