Press release from the Eureka Police Department, one of the several local law enforcement agencies that will engage in this tradition once again this year:

The Eureka Police Department is inviting the community to help make the holidays a little brighter for local children through the Third Annual No Shave November Fundraiser.

This fundraiser supports the department’s 13th Annual Shop with a Cop event, a longstanding holiday tradition that brings together children and first responders from throughout the community. This December, EPD will provide 50 children with a $120 gift card and an opportunity to spend the day shopping alongside local police officers, firefighters, and other first responders.

For many children, Shop with a Cop is about much more than receiving a holiday gift. It is an opportunity to build positive connections with first responders, enjoy a special day, and experience the excitement of choosing gifts for themselves and their loved ones. The event includes breakfast, a lights-and-sirens escort to the store, and time spent shopping with their first responder partners.

Throughout November, participating EPD employees will take part in the fundraiser by growing out their beards and mustaches while collecting donations to support the event. Employees contribute $100 toward sponsoring a child, with additional fundraising efforts helping reach the department’s goal.

Community members who would like to contribute can donate directly through participating Eureka Police Department employees through a pay app or drop off cash or checks at the EPD front counter. Checks should be made payable to Eureka Police Foundation, with “Shop with a Cop” noted in the memo line. All donations collected will directly support the Shop with a Cop program and help provide local children with a memorable holiday experience.

The department will also bring a little friendly competition into the fundraiser. In early December, photos of participating employees will be shared on EPD’s social media pages, where the public will be invited to vote for the Best Beard or Mustache. The winner will receive a $100 gift card to a local restaurant, courtesy of Chief Stephens. The employee who raises the most funds will also receive a special prize.

The Eureka Police Department invites the community to be part of this special tradition. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps create meaningful memories for local children and reminds them that their community cares. Together, we can make this holiday season a little more special for the children and families who need it most.
